What can psychotherapy help with?

Psychotherapy can help with a wide range of issues that people may be grappling with. It can support individuals struggling with mental health issues such as depression, anxiety, and trauma. It can also help individuals struggling with life’s difficulties such as relationship difficulties and career stresses. While psychotherapy is a broad approach, generally it may help by providing individuals with greater self-awareness, self-acceptance, and practical skills.

Do you accept insurance or other payments?

  • Private insurance: While we don’t work directly with any private insurers, we can provide documentation for you to independently claim any benefits you may be eligible for.

  • NDIS: We may accept NDIS payments, please contact us to inquire.

  • Medicare, victims services, worker’s comp, and compulsory third party (motor vehicle accident) insurance: Not eligible at this time.

Do I need a referral to see a counsellor or therapist?

Referrals, such as from your general practitioner, are not required. However, if you have any relevant information to share either from yourself or your healthcare providers, you are welcome to share it with us.

What is the the difference between a counsellor or therapist, psychologist, and psychiatrist?

Counsellors or therapists, psychologists, and psychiatrists all provide mental health support for individuals. All three professions have overlap and commonly provide talk therapy services. The primary difference lies in their training and their ability to diagnose & prescribe medicine.

Counsellors or therapists

  • Provide talk therapy

  • Typically accredited either with PACFA or ACA

Psychologists

  • Provide talk therapy

  • Also trained to perform diagnosis and assessments of mental health-related conditions

Psychiatrists

  • Medical doctors who have specialized in psychiatry

  • Qualified to provide talk therapy, diagnoses and assessments, and also to prescribe medication
