Anxiety is a common experience that may feel like worry and fear about future situations. Feelings of anxiety may arise in relation to various triggers, such as: social situations (social anxiety), one’s school work, professional work, and more. Experiencing some amount of anxiety is natural, as it can help us be more alert and prepared. However if the anxiety you experience is very persistent and distressing, this may be something worth paying attention to.

Symptoms to Watch Out For

Anxiety shows up differently in different people, but some common symptoms to watch out for include:

  • Feelings of anxiety and worry are:

    • Intense

    • Prolonged

    • Difficult to control

  • Panic attacks

  • Physical effects

    • Tightening of the chest

    • Racing heart

    • Breathing that is fast and shallow

    • Difficulty sleeping
